Mount Pleasant estate to have 6,000 HDB flats, up from 5,000 previously announced

Six buildings, which HDB states were “identified as one of the most significant representations of authorities heritage”, have actually been conserved and will definitely be incorporated into the brand-new estate. Four blocks will be repurposed for different usages including an area cops post and SPF Heritage Gallery. One block is going to continue to serve as the Senior Law Enforcement Officer’ Mess, while another will be integrated into future property developments. Additionally, the previous OPA parade square will be maintained as public space for community use.

This will be the 2nd BTO project to present the white flat layout, after the Crawford Heights BTO project, that released last October. According to HDB, referring to four in 10 flat customers selected the design at that project.

According to HDB, the raised supply follows “more detailed planning studies” and are going to guide to fulfill strong housing interest.

The first BTO project in the Mount Pleasant estate will be started as part of the October 2025 BTO activity. Named Mount Pleasant Crest, it is going to offer about 1,350 units of two-room flexi to four-room flats. There are going to also be 270 units of public rental condos.

Four Build-to-Order (BTO) ventures are prepared for the upcoming Mount Pleasant estate, which are going to generate approximately 6,000 new condos upon completion. This is 1,000 more than the 5,000 units previously revealed for the 33ha site, HDB claims in a Sept 2 announcement.

The Mount Pleasant estate rests on the site of the Old Police Academy (OPA), near to the Thomson Flyover off the Pan Island Expressway. The OPA was utilized as the training institute for the Singapore Police Force (SPF) until 2005.

HDB states the “white flat” layout will be offered at Mount Pleasant Crest. Flat buyers can select the open-concept layout, which provides a contiguous living and bedroom space without separation walls, when they are called to reserve a flat.

Lee Sze Teck, leading supervisor of data analytics at Hiuttons Asia, thinks the Mount Pleasant Crest project that will be launched for sale in October will draw solid attention, due to its area near to Mount Pleasant MRT Stop and schools such as CHIJ Primary Toa Payoh and Singapore Chinese Girls’ School.

Offered by the brand-new Mount Pleasant MRT Terminal on the Thomson-East Coast Line, Mount Pleasant are going to be a car-lite estate and include Transit Priority Corridors with dedicated bus lanes, wider foot tracks and cycling paths. New roads, including a primary highway named “Old Police Academy Road”, will also be built to enhance ease of access. There will also be a protected pedestrian highway that links the numerous precincts in Mount Pleasant, HDB says.

Eugene Lim, key executive officer at ERA Singapore, mentions that the white flat design at Mount Pleasant Crest may interest more youthful Singaporeans and homeowners intending to do extensive renovations. “A white level typology will give them the option to personalize their design to cater to their housing needs, permitting flexibility over the longer term,” he says.

Mount Pleasant’s closeness to Toa Payoh will also factor into need and prices. “The project may be a Prime BTO as resale flat costs in Toa Payoh are quite high and the older estate has among the greatest numbers of million-dollar resale condos,” Lee adds. Prime apartments are subject to tighter rules, like a 10-year minimum occupation period and an aid clawback.
